The artist's tale:
This is the first time I have attempted to paint a submarine for twenty odd years. The story being, and
I hope some of you out there will remember me, is that I am an ex -submariner. My 'studio' was situated in the lower torpedo compartment, in between the fish. In my off watch time I'd paint to while away some of the long hours between watches. The only limiting factor I had, while painting on boats, was the size of canvas I could get down the hatch. When I left he Royal Navy in 1978 I went to Art College and trained as a Graphic Designer. This is what I have been doing for the last 22 years. In all that time I never painted but, I was inspired by this site and encouraged by Sarah,
SubArt's founder, to pick up my brushes again.
This first painting depicts the 'T' class boat Trafalgar having just left Plymouth Sound, turning west to head down the Channel and into deeper water. Dawn breaks over the rolling Devon hills behind.
Other
Trafalgar Class Fleet submarines were Talent, Tireless, Torbay, Trenchant,
Triumph and Turbulent.
