This H21 Class submarine was commissioned October 1919.  She served in the 3rd Flotilla at the beginning of WW2 but was sunk on 18 October 1940 off Texel, Netherlands, when depth-charged by German anti-submarine vessels leaving just 1 survivor.

The wreck of H49 was only discovered in 1984 by a Dutch diver.
