The last of the three Seawolf Class submarines the USS Jimmy Carter
(SSN-23) was delayed in construction when the design was changed to add a
100-foot long midships section. This additional section is designed
to be used for modular replacement of equipment to fit the various tasks
that might be assigned to the submarine. These range from SEAL
support through surveillance to tasks yet to be determined. This
work portrays the USS Jimmy Carter as it stands out from Electric Boat
Corporation, the builder, for its initial sea trials in the winter of
2004.
