On 17 February 1943 U201 had been at sea about 36 days when this Type VIIC U-boat approached the Allied convoy ON-165. U-201is immediately spotted with HF / DF. It is not long after that the British destroyer HMS Viscount releases depth charges and successfully sinks U201 at at 50.50N 40.50W in the North Atlantic.
None of the 49-strong crew survived the sinking.
