The story behind the painting...

Günther Prien's U-47 Type VII B out on patrol.

Just six weeks after the start of the war Germany had its first hero. Prien attacked and sank the Royal Naval battleship Royal Oak in Scapa Flow.

U47 is one of the most famous German u-boats of World War II. In this painting U47 is depicted advancing on HMS Royal Oak.
