The story behind the painting...

 
The original of this painting was presented to the U. S. Navy when the submarine was commissiones.  It now hangs in Alexandria's Wardroom. Unfortunately no prints have been made.

Alexandria was built by Electric Boat Division, General Dynamics Corp. Groton, CT and was commissioned on 29 June l991.  She was initially homeported in Portsmouth, NH and is now homeported at Groton, CT.  

She is has a length of 360', beam of 33' and draft of 29'.  She took part in operations in the Arabian Gulf.  

Her motto is "TWICE AS STRONG".

The artist, William H. RaVell III, knew the boat well as he was a Senior Electrical Planner at General Dynamics.
