U-Boat War Patrol
- the Hidden Photographic Diary of U564
Published by Greenhill Publishing
Written by Lawrence Paterson

This excellent hardback book follows a whole patrol undertaken by U564 - a Type VIIC U-boat captained by the much loved "Teddy" Suhren.   This book contains more than 250 rare photographs charting the boats progress.  The photos are perfectly accompanied by Paterson's easy, yet comprehensive, writing style ensuring the reader becomes fully engrossed in the crews ups and downs throughout their voyage.

Suitable for both U-boat novices and experts and an absolute must for all U-boat artists and modelers!

Hitler's Grey Wolves
U-Boats in the Indian Ocean
Published by Greenhill Publishing
Written by Lawrence Paterson

Previously information on the U-boat war in this area was scattered and hard to come by.  In this hardback edition Lawrence Paterson presents a full picture of events and gives the reader an insight into the often difficult cooperation between the Japanese and Germans.  Many of the infamous myths of U-boats carrying precious gold, mercury and high ranking Nazi personnel are also covered in this book.  As Paterson fans have come to expect, all the facts and figures are there and yet there is not a hint of dryness as his easy writing style captures your attention from page 1.   And to top it all there is also a wealth of superb photographs - many from a U-boat commander's personal collection and never before published.

First U-Boat Flotilla
Published by Pen & Sword
Written by Lawrence Paterson

This was Paterson's first book and upon reading it U-boat enthusiasts the world over were delighted to realise that a new and talent author had suddenly entered their world.  Paterson is a superb writer bringing history very much alive whilst still skillfully maintaining an unbiased viewpoint.  This book is, as the title suggests, all about Germany's first U-boat flotilla - covering its early formation in 1935 through to its painful cessation 9 years later.   As the reader turns the pages he shares the roller-coaster of joy and tears as he grows familiar with each boat's commander and crew.   A good selection of previously unseen photographs.  Hardback.

Second U-Boat Flotilla
Published by Pen & Sword
Written by Lawrence Paterson

Fittingly, the topic for Paterson's second book is the Second U-boat flotilla.  The author allows us to follow the comings and goings and successes and  failures of all the boats in this flotilla together with an insight into the excitement and frustrations experienced by the crew.  Although a natural follow on from his first book, First U-boat Flotilla which closely examines the Type II and Type VII U-boats, this second book concentrates particularly on the Type IXs that dominated this flotilla.  Consequently their is little repitition and the two books can comfortably be read back to back or entirely independently as desired.  Once again, the author has found a great array of rare photographs to accompany the story. Hardback edition.

Hunt and Kill: U-505 and the U-boat War in the Atlantic
Published by Spellmount Publishers
edited by Theodore P. Savas.

One of WWII's pivotal events was the capture of U-505 on June 4, 1944. The top secret seizure of this massive Type IX submarine provided the Allies with priceless information on German technology and innovation. After the war U-505 was transported to Chicago, where today several hundred thousand visitors a year pass through its well-preserved hull at the Museum of Science and Industry.

Hunt and Kill offers the first definitive study of U-505. Chapters include her construction, crew and commanders, combat history, an assessment of Type IX operations, naval intelligence, the eight fatal German mistakes that doomed the ill-fated boat, her capture, and final transportation and restoration for posterity.

The contributors to this fascinating hardback volume--a Who's Who of U-boat historians--include: Erich Topp (U-552, Odyssey of a U-boat Commander); Eric Rust (Naval Officers Under Hitler); Timothy Mulligan (Neither Sharks Nor Wolves); Jak Mallmann Showell (Hitler's U-boat Bases); Jordan Vause (Wolf); Lawrence Paterson (First U-boat Flotilla); Mark Wise (Enigma and the Battle of the Atlantic); Keith R. Gill (Curator, U-505, Museum of Science and Industry), and Theodore P. Savas (editor, Silent Hunters: German U-boat Commanders of World War II; author, Nazi Millionaries).

Wake of the Wahoo
Published by R A Cline Publishing
Written by Forest J Sterling

From Pearl Harbor to her last and fatal voyage, the heroic story of America's most daring World War II submarine, as told by the only surviving member of her crew, Forest J.  Sterling. USS Wahoo (SS-238) was the most successful submarine in the World War II Pacific Fleet. She was the first to penetrate an enemy harbor and sink a Japanese ship. She was the first to wipe-out an entire convoy single-handedly. In her 11 short months of life, Wahoo managed an incredible 21 kills, totaling over 60,000 tons of ships. Then, just 45 minutes before leaving Midway (island) for her last and fatal patrol, Yeoman Forest Sterling was transferred to other duty. The result is this paperback book; Wake of the Wahoo, Sterling's fantastic yet completely authentic account of a remarkable crew, captain and the ship they lived and died for. Wahoo's captain---the aggressive and brave Lieutenant Commander Dudley 'Mush' Morton was the pride of the submarine fleet. He would earn the Navy Cross at the helm of Wahoo. The sub's executive officer---the daring Lieutenant Richard H. 'Dick' O'Kane.  O'Kane would later receive the Congressional Medal of Honor in command of the submarine USS Tang. Forest Sterling tells the story as no one else could. Wake of the Wahoo is a true account of American submarine warfare from a man who lived it ... and lived to tell about it. (Review taken from publisher's website)
